Open a Chinese Bank Account & Link It to SJTU

A Chinese bank account is generally required for:

  • receiving scholarship payments;
  • receiving eligible insurance reimbursements;
  • paying accommodation and daily expenses; and
  • using the full functions of WeChat Pay or Alipay.

 

TDLI does not currently recommend a specific bank or branch. Updated practical guidance may be provided during orientation.

 

Documents You May Need

Requirements vary by bank and branch. You may be asked to provide:

  • your passport;
  • a valid visa or residence permit;
  • a Chinese mobile phone number;
  • your SJTU Admission Notice or student card;
  • your temporary residence registration; and
  • your residential address in China.

Set Up Mobile Payment

After opening the account, you may link your Chinese bank card to WeChat Pay or Alipay.

Scholarship students must also register their Chinese bank account with t

he University financial system before scholarship payments can be issued.
