Residence Permit

SJTU can issue residence permit application documents only to international students who have completed all University registration procedures.

Students entering China with an X1 visa must normally apply for a study residence permit within 30 days of entry. Students who will remain in China continuously for more than 180 days must also hold a valid residence permit.

Students are responsible for ensuring that their visa remains valid. Any fine or other consequence resulting from an expired visa or illegal stay must be borne by the student.

Before applying, complete the following:

  • SJTU registration;
  • temporary residence registration;
  • the required physical examination or verification; and
  • the online application for the University visa application letter through MySJTU or the MySJTU app.
