Passport Renewal
Students renewing a passport in China should begin the renewal process sufficiently early, normally at least two months before the current residence permit expires.
After receiving a new passport, initiate the update application through MySJTU immediately and complete the corresponding visa or residence permit update within ten days.
Students who renew their passport outside China must re-enter China with an appropriate valid visa. After entry, they must initiate the MySJTU update application and complete the corresponding immigration-document update within ten days.
If you are unable to obtain an appropriate study visa after renewing your passport outside China, contact the SJTU Visa and Residence Permit Service before travelling.
Changes to Student Status or Personal Information
Initiate an update application through MySJTU immediately if:
- you change from visiting-student status to degree-student status;
- your enrollment or study status changes;
- your name, nationality, passport information or other registered personal information changes; or
- another change affects the information recorded on your visa or residence permit.
The corresponding visa or residence permit update must be completed within ten days of receiving the new passport or completing the relevant status or information change.
Do not wait until your current visa or residence permit is close to expiry before reporting a change. Failure to complete the required update may affect your legal stay in China.
Always follow the latest instructions generated through MySJTU and issued by the SJTU Visa and Residence Permit Service.
