3.1.2 Visiting Students

Visiting students do not necessarily need TDLI or SJTU to issue visa application materials.

You may not need additional University visa documents if:

  • you already hold a valid visa that permits your entry and covers the full visit; or
  • you qualify for a current visa‑exemption policy and the permitted visa‑free stay covers the full visit.

Students are responsible for confirming that their immigration status is appropriate for the purpose and full duration of the visit. Check and confirm through the website/email of the Chinese embassy/consulate at your place of residence is the most reliable channel.

Students Admitted through an SJTU Program

If you have been admitted to an SJTU visiting, exchange, summer or other short‑term program, follow the visa instructions provided in the program admission notice or registration email.

TDLI International Research Internship Students

TDLI International Research Internship students who require SJTU admission and visa application materials should apply through the SJTU Research Topic‑Based Visiting Student Program.

Applicants should follow the document and nomination procedure shown on that page.
