Dissertation Proposal |

In principle, doctoral students cannot apply for a dissertation proposal the same semester as they pass the qualifying examnination. Students who do not pass the dissertation proposal defense on their first attempt may apply for a second proposal defense in the following semester. Students who fail the dissertation proposal defense twice shall not be permitted to continue their doctoral studies. |

Annual Evaluation |

Doctoral students shall undergo an annual evaluation on a calendar-year basis after completing their dissertation proposal defense. As part of the annual evaluation, doctoral students must submit a written annual progress report to their respective discipline. The report shall provide a detailed description of the progress of the dissertation research and the interim achievements obtained during the reporting period. |

Qualifying Examination:
1. For regular doctoral students, the qualifying examination should be completed by the first semester of the second academic year; for direct-entry doctoral students, by the second semester of the second academic year.
2. Direct-entry doctoral students shall achieve a GPA of no less than 2.7 in their coursework during the first two years of study.
3. Students who fail the doctoral qualifying examination on their first attempt may apply to retake the examination in the following semester. Students who fail the qualifying examination twice shall not be permitted to continue their doctoral studies.
