Prof. Qingdong Jiang’s research group proposed using cavity to select chirality
The notion of chirality dates back to 1848, when Louis Pasteur observed two crystals that, similar to our hands, were mirror images of each other but could not completely superposed on each other. Chirality is a basic concept of nature; many organic molecules in life only appear in one type of chirality, not the other. A pair of molecules that are mirror images of each other are called enantiomers. Due to the similarity in physical properties of enantiomers, how to effectively identify and select molecules with specific chirality has become an important key scientific issue. Read More

Space Tnterferometry Reveals Helical Filaments within the Jet Launched by a Supermassive Black Hole
An international research team leads the observation at the highest angular resolution and sensitivity of the jet emerging from the core of galaxy 3C 279 at nearly the speed of light. The image obtained reveals large helical filaments close to the central engine, the existence of which requires an alternative model to the one employed for four decades to explain the variability of these jets.

4-Fermion Phase with Broken Time-Reversal Symmetry Induces Anomaly in the Heat Capacity
An international research team led by scientists from TDLI, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm and the University of Genoa reports calorimetric evidence for the existence of a four-fermion state with broken time-reversal (Z2) symmetry. The heat capacity measurements show that the quadrupling of fermions leads to the formation of a distinct phase itself separated from the normal and the superconducting states by phase transition, in which Z2symmetry is spontaneously broken. Backed by experimental data from scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements performed at TDLI, this work provides the first thermodynamic evidence for fluctuation-induced orders above superconducting transition.
