Early visit as project-based visiting student

Candidates holding a TDLI Pre-offer who need to come to Shanghai before formal enrollment may apply for a project-based visit visa (项目课题生) for short-term research (1 month–1 year). Conversion from a visit visa to a student visa follows SJTU and immigration procedures.

Early visitors must sign a tripartite Visit/Internship Agreement (Student — Supervisor — TDLI).

How

  1. Search the Supervisor Directory to identify potential advisors.
  2. Contact prospective supervisors by email. Provide: 1) English CV; 2) Personal statement and research/study plan
  3. If a faculty member agrees to supervise you, request a Visiting Student Program clarification. Download the template here.

Send the clarification to the TDLI coordinator

  1. A PDF scan of your passport bio page.
  2. Confirm the email address you are using now will be your sign-in email for the SJTU visiting program. Once entered into the SJTU nomination system, it cannot be changed.
  3. Send to zhao.yu@sjtu.edu.cn and keep your TDLI supervisor in the loop.

TDLI will nominate the student in the system once the above information is confirmed. After nomination, the system sends a sign-up email directly to the chosen contact. The student completes the online application, which is reviewed before admission.

After admission: Students receive an electronic admission notice and a visa application form (JW202/DQ Form). Use these documents to apply for a study visa for entry.
