The application cycle for Fall 2026 admission has closed.
The SJTU online application portal (https://global.sjtu.edu.cn/en/study-sjtu/prospective) for Fall 2027 admission is expected to open in October 2026. The confirmed opening date and application deadlines will be published once announced by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Early Preparation and TDLI Pre-screening
From June 2026 until the SJTU application portal opens, prospective students are welcome to begin preparing their applications and request preliminary review by TDLI.
Step 1: Identify a prospective supervisor
Search the TDLI Supervisor Directory (https://tdli.sjtu.edu.cn/en/grad-students/supervisor-directory) to identify faculty members whose research interests align with yours.
Step 2: Contact the prospective supervisor
Contact the faculty member directly by email and provide:
- An English CV; and
- A personal statement and research/study plan.
Step 3: Obtain supervisor confirmation
If a faculty member agrees to supervise you, request a signed Supervisor's Conditional Acceptance Letter.

Step 4: Prepare your application materials
Prepare the application materials listed on the TDLI How to Apply page, including your academic certificates, transcripts, language proficiency documents, recommendation letters, passport copy, personal statement and study plan.
Step 5: Submit materials for TDLI pre-screening
Send your complete application materials no later than the end of September 2027 to:

TDLI will conduct a preliminary review of the submitted materials. An internal interview may be arranged where appropriate.
TDLI Pre-offer and Formal Admission
Candidates who successfully complete the TDLI review and interview may receive a conditional TDLI Pre-offer.
A TDLI Pre-offer is not an official admission offer from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. After the SJTU application portal opens, all candidates must:
- Complete the formal online application through the SJTU portal;
- Upload all required application materials;
- Pass SJTU's preliminary document review; and
- Receive final approval from the University.
Only candidates who receive an official admission notice from Shanghai Jiao Tong University are formally admitted.
