Memorial Service for Professor Tsung-Dao Lee to Be Held on August 25

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Professor Tsung-Dao Lee, a globally esteemed scientist, Nobel Laureate, and Chinese-American physicist. Professor Lee passed away peacefully at his home in San Francisco, USA, on August 4, 2024, at 2:33 a.m. local time, at the age of 97.

 

To deeply mourn and honor the life and legacy of Professor Tsung-Dao Lee, and in accordance with his family’s wishes, a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, in Shanghai. The service is co-organized by the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), the Tsung-Dao Lee Library of SJTU, the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology (CCAST), and the Chinese Physical Society (CPS). The event will be streamed live online in both English and Chinese, with satellite venues in Shanghai, Beijing, and other locations.

 

Professor Lee was a distinguished figure in the scientific community. He was a Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and Italy’s National Academy of Sciences. He held lifelong tenure as the director of CCAST, and was an honorary professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as well as the honorary director of Tsung-Dao Lee Institute of SJTU.
