Joint TDLI & INPAC Summer School in Particle Physics 2022

2022-07-12

Joint TDLI & INPAC Summer School in Particle Physics 2022 was successfully held online from July 4 to July 8. This summer school aims to provide a pedagogical introduction and overview of our profound understanding of the microscopic world and its connection to the entire Universe. The school also covers recent experimental developments in dark matter, neutrino, collider and muon physics where significant progress has been achieved. The school was held online with a total of more than 100 registered students in China and abroad participated. And thanks to online academic live-streaming platform Koushare, the whole summer school session was broadcasted online with nearly 5,000 views.

In his opening speech, Prof. Jason Evans, one of the main organizers of this summer school from TDLI, extended his warmest welcome and good wishes to all the participants. Followed by an opening talk named “Why could I predict such small neutrino masses more than 43 years ago?”, Prof. Tsutomu Yanagida showed us how exciting the golden time in particle physics was when he was young and answered why he is still searching for the third diamond in his life.

A list of more than 10 professors from TDLI and SPA, including Profs. Jason Evans, Shaofeng Ge, Yue Meng, Ning Zhou, Michael Ramsey-Musolf, Weihao Wu, Junting Huang, Kai Yan Donglian Xu, Yuichiro Nakai, Kun Liu, Xiaogang He, Shu Li, Luca Visinelli, Sophia Han, Kim-Siang Khaw, Hongjian He and Yumin Zhao, have given lectures to introduce the current status, frontiers and future of particle physics researches. Prof Qi-An Zhang, an associate professor from Beihang University and a former T.D.Lee Postdoc also showed us his latest scientific results. Theoretical and experimental topics, such as standard model of particle Physics, precision muon physics, neutrino physics, beyond the Higgs particle, dark matter, atomic nuclei, collider physics, lattice quantum field theory, CP violation, early universe, astronuclear physics, dense nuclear matter among neutron stars and multi-messenger astronomy, were discussed by them. Presented by Lin Si and Tianqi Hu, a group of 12 Ph.D. students from TDLI and INPAC also gave their talks in the special student’s session, introducing their research and daily life and answering questions from many interested students.

In the afternoon of July 8, Prof. Yuichiro Nakai, one of the main organizers of this summer school from TDLI, closed this summer school with great thanks to the lecturers and students participated and offered gratitude to the support and companionship received in the last 5 days. The participated students expressed that the summer school was very beneficial to them, and they were impressed by the professional attitude and academic level shown by the faculty and students of TDLI and INPAC. With good wishes and encouragement, the event came to a successful conclusion.

Joint TDLI & INPAC Summer School in Particle Physics has been successfully held annually in the last three years so far, constantly providing the freshest academic news to the majority of senior undergraduate students and answering their questions and concerns for their academic career development. In the future, TDLI will further play its unique role as an international academic exchange platform, and serve the major strategic needs of the country and strengthen the cultivation of top innovative talents in basic disciplines with a series of academic events.
