The 2020 Journey to Zunyi of Shanghai Postdoctoral Science and Technology Service Team began in late September. Organized by Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau as well as Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Zunyi, this six-day activity went smoothly with more than 20 participants including postdoctoral scholars and supervisors from eight postdoctoral research centers in Shanghai.
Haiyuan Zou, a postdoctoral fellow of TDLI, as one of the five participants from SJTU, paid his visit to Zunyi No.4 High School from Sep 25th to Sep 27th. Combined with professional advantages, he discussed with teachers there on the training of Strengthening Basic Disciplines Program and gave High School Olympiad Courses to students for over 10 hours.
People presented in the in-depth discussion with Zou included vice presidents Duanxue Dai, Zhengdong Guo and Dejun Kong, teacher Jixiang Zeng who is in charge of competition in the office of academic affairs, as well as Shiting Li and Liuzong Chen who are the representatives of the Physics group. Vice president Dai mentioned that the school’s founding headmaster Jiyu Zhu, who has devoted himself to education when he returned to China after studying abroad, shared similar experiences with Zou. Thus, the Zunyi No.4 High School treasures and welcomes all talents in the field of basic disciplines, and hope a long-term contact with Zou after the activity, which was passionately responded by him.
Then, Zou talked about the similarity and difference between teaching and academic study, as well as the difference between Olympiad and traditional class, with a hope that teachers could better stimulate students' curiosity about basic science. What’s more, he gifted college physics textbooks which was of enlightening significance to him to relevant teachers, based on which they discussed about its content and practicability.
During the lecture, Zou made an intensive training on the mechanics part of college physics that would be examined in the semi-final, focusing on explaining how to establish physical images, solve problems with a systematic method, boost positive thinking and manage time effectively, with a highlight on the importance of experiment. In addition, he also shared the experience in his academic life and how he studied in high school. After class, he answered students' questions together with physics teachers of the school, and exchanged his methods of learning physics with those students.
Zou expressed his gratitude for the well-organized journey by the Human Resources and Social Security Bureaus of Shanghai and Zunyi and the support from the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute(TDLI), an institute where greatly value education and encourage researchers to participate in various kinds of public service activities for science popularization. During such a short journey, the pureness and curiosity of students in the Olympiad class, and the teachers' devotion for education as well as their responsibility for students left deep impressions on him. Meanwhile, he felt encouraged by the power of generational treasures from the patriotic spirit and noble moral of Prof. Dr. Tsung-Dao Lee who had study experience in Guizhou where Zhejiang University was landed during the war-time, and also from the tradition of pursuing truth held by the people in Zunyi NO.4 High School.
