About TDLI

Established in 2016 with the vision of Nobel laureate Tsung-Dao Lee, Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is dedicated to exploring the most fundamental questions in physics and astronomy. We delve into the connections between the universe's largest and smallest scales to uncover the basic laws of nature. We are seeking candidates passionate about advancing scientific frontiers and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across a broad range of fields.

English is the working language at TDLI, which forms a highly international research team with 30-40% of our full-time scientific members hailing from outside China.

Research Divisions

Astronomy and Astrophysics Division:

The division is actively seeking candidates with expertise in all areas of astrophysics, including both theoretical and observational studies. Research topics range from exoplanets and high-energy/gravitational wave astronomy to plasma astrophysics and cosmology. With the construction of a 4-meter spectroscopic telescope, expected to be completed in 2026, the institution aims to make significant contributions to time-domain science, cosmology, and exoplanet research. The division is set for substantial growth in the coming years, offering ample opportunities for professional development and collaboration. [Learn More]

Particle and Nuclear Physics Division:

The division has three groups carrying out forefront research.

a) Theory Group: This group is at the forefront of exploring physics beyond the Standard Model, neutrino and flavor physics, early universe quantum field theory, and its implications for baryogenesis and dark matter. It also delves into quantum chromodynamics, lattice gauge theory, effective field theory, and nuclear astrophysics. [Learn More]

b) Underground Experimental Group: This group focuses on Dark Matter Direct Detection, Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay (PandaX), Cosmic Neutrino Experiments (TRIDENT, JUNO, IceCube), and Reactor Neutrino Experiments (JUNO).

c) Accelerator-based Experimental Group: This group is engaged in LHC-ATLAS Physics, Detector Upgrades, CEPC Physics and Detector R&D, Fundamental and Applied Muon Science (Muon g-2, muEDM, SHINE Muon Source, Shanghai Muography), Light Dark Matter Search Experiments (DarkSHINE), and Advanced Accelerator Studies. [Learn More]

Condensed Matter Division:

The division is dedicated to investigating unconventional and topological superconductivity, quantum transport in low-dimensional systems, quantum magnetism, quantum phase transitions, nonequilibrium physics in bulk and molecular quantum materials, ultra-cold gases, quantum optics, quantum information, quantum many-body structures and their manipulation, and Casimir physics and light-matter interaction.
