Tsung-Dao Lee Institute at Science Night of Shanghai Science Festival

Shanghai Xuhui Science Festival 2021, themed Innovate the Future on the basis of 100-year cumulation, took place at Qian Xuesen Library on May 25. As part of the Festival's important activity, Science Night kicked off at the same time at the Library, setting off a craze on aerospace.

Assoc. Prof. Sheng Li, Head of TDLI Scientific Cooperation Office, gave the popular science report Science in Interstellar to 40 on-site teenagers and their parents and over 80,000 online audiences at the Two Bombs, One Satellite course session.

 

The report explained the science of the movie Interstellar's sci-fi elements like the wormhole, black hole, high dimensional space, exoplanet, and so on and so forth. Sheng especially elaborated on the latest research development of the black holes. The poem Ask Tian was marked as the ending of the report to present our prevailing curiosity of the sky and space, and to encourage the young to explore the unknown in the future.

2021 has witnessed many breakthroughs in aerospace of China, like Mars rover Zhurong, to the point that Chang'e 6, space station and heavy-lift launch vehicle are becoming trending searches on the internet. Science Night held different activities like lectures, camping, and VR games, covering topics like health checks for satellites, secrets behind the astronaut suits, etc, to stimulate teenagers' curiosity about aerospace and astronomy.
