Abstract:
Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS), based on CMOS technology, are among the most advanced semiconductor detector technologies available today. They have wide applications in nuclear and particle physics experiments as well as other fields, and are also considered a key option for vertex and tracking detectors in many future high-energy, high-luminosity collider experiments. The Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF) is a next-generation ultra-high-luminosity electron–positron collider currently being planned in China. STCF will operate in the transition region between the perturbative and non-perturbative domains of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), with a peak luminosity approximately 100 times higher than existing facilities. It features a series of unique capabilities and a rich physics program. To meet the severe challenges posed by high luminosity and high event rates—and to fulfill the demanding requirements for high-precision tracking—an inner tracking detector based on MAPS technology has been proposed. This talk will discuss the current global research status of MAPS pixel detectors, the development progress of the CharTPix MAPS detector designed for STCF, and future prospects for MAPS technology.
Biography:
Lailin Xu is a faculty at the School of Physical Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from USTC in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Before joining USTC in 2021, he conducted postdoctoral research on the ATLAS experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the United States. His main research interests include measuring the properties of the Higgs boson at the ATLAS experiment, performing precision tests of the Standard Model in the electroweak sector, and searching for new physics such as dark matter and Majorana neutrinos. He has also contributed to the upgrade of the ATLAS High-Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD). In recent years, he has been involved in the research and development project of the Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF). Esepcially, he has been leading the R&D on the MAPS based inner tracker for STCF.
